Teacher guide

Your three = three sets

Drag a tip, or focus it and use the arrow keys.

PositiveA, B, C

B1 = A1 × a²
C1 = A1 × a

NegativeA, C, B

B2 = A2 × a
C2 = A2 × a²

Zeroin step

B0 = A0
C0 = A0

Add them back up

Each phase is its zero, positive and negative pieces laid tip to tail. The wide faint arrow is the phase itself.

A = A0 + A1 + A2

B = B0 + B1 + B2

C = C0 + C1 + C2

Find A1 by hand

Find which piece

In a machine

Feed the stator

Coloured arrows: each coil's field, along its own axis. Thick arrow: their sum, the field. Grey bar: the rotor.

Loads and neutral

Resistive loads, so each current is in step with its voltage. The neutral wire brings the currents back. Tap a switch to flip it.

Waveforms

Each wave is the shadow of its turning arrow on the horizontal axis. The thin line is “now”.

Work it by hand

The split written out with your numbers (a turns an arrow 120° forward).
